Using custom fields on requests

Enable custom request fields inside engagements

Custom fields let engagement teams track information specific to their workflows—like external links, internal notes, or team assignments—directly on requests. This article covers how to enable custom fields on an engagement and use them.

Before you begin

Custom fields must be created in your firm's Settings before they can be enabled on an engagement. See Set up custom fields for instructions.

Any firm user with access to an engagement can enable and disable custom fields for that engagement.

Enable custom fields on an engagement

Enabling a custom field makes it visible on all requests in the engagement and adds it as a column in the request list. Clients can view all enabled custom fields. Whether they can also edit field values depends on the client access setting configured for each field in Settings.

To enable custom fields on an engagement, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Requests tab inside the engagement.

  2. Click the menu in the top right, then select Manage Custom Fields.

  3. Toggle on the fields you want to enable.

  4. Click Save.

Disable a custom field on an engagement

A custom field can't be disabled if any request in the engagement already has a value in that field. You'll need to clear those values first.

To disable a custom field on an engagement, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Requests tab inside the engagement.

  2. Click the menu in the top right, then select Manage Custom Fields.

  3. Toggle off the fields you want to disable.

  4. Click Save.

Fill in custom field values

Custom fields appear on each request's detail view and in the request creation form. They accept single-line text and work the same way as the standard text fields on requests—click a field to add or update its value inside the Requests table or while viewing a request.

View custom fields in the request list

Enabled custom fields appear as columns in the request list. You can show or hide these columns at any time without affecting the fields themselves.

To show or hide custom field columns, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Requests tab inside the engagement.

  2. Click the Manage columns icon in the top right.

  3. Check or uncheck the columns you want to show or hide.
