Set up custom fields

Configure custom fields for your firm's engagements

Custom fields let your firm add fields to requests beyond Fieldguide's standard set for tracking information like external links, internal notes, or team assignments that are specific to your workflows.

Custom fields are defined at the firm level and are available to all engagements. Each engagement can then enable only the fields it needs. For information on enabling and using custom fields within an engagement, see Using custom fields on requests.

Before you begin

Any firm user who has an admin-level role can create, edit, and delete custom fields.

Create a custom field

To create a custom field, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Admin > Custom Fields.

  2. Click + New.

  3. Enter a Name for the field.

  4. Optionally, enter a Description to help team members understand what the field is for.

  5. Under Client Access, select one of the following:

    • Client can edit value: Clients can view the field and enter or update its value.

    • Client can view: Clients can view the field and its value but can't edit it.

  6. Click Create Field.

The new field appears in your Custom Fields list and is available to enable on any engagement.

Edit a custom field

Changes to a custom field's name, description, or client access setting apply everywhere the field is enabled.

To edit a custom field, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Admin > Custom Fields.

  2. In the row for the field you want to edit, click the menu, then select Edit.

  3. Update the name, description, or client access setting as needed.

  4. Click Save.

Delete a custom field

A custom field can't be deleted while it's enabled on any engagement. To delete a field that's in use, you'll need to disable it on all engagements first.

To delete a custom field, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Admin > Custom Fields.

  2. In the row for the field you want to delete, click the menu, then select Delete.
