Overview
Use mail merge tags to pull in data from your form’s fields into your report. Each form field type has different steps for inserting into a report template. Some form fields have additional formatting options that affect how the data displays in your generated report. Check a form field’s type in its settings menu, then follow the steps for that field type.
Text, date, and number fields
To add these types of fields to a report, copy the mail merge tag from the left side of the field and paste into your report template.
List fields
To copy the mail merge tag for a list field, you’ll need to select an option for how it should display in the report:
Value tag
Inline checkboxes tag
Single checkbox tag
Here’s an example of how each option will display in a generated report:
Image fields
Add an image to a report by using an image form field. Like other form fields, images are added to your report by copying the mail merge tag from the field and pasting it into your report template. Before copying the mail merge tag, follow the steps on the image form field.
Set image dimensions. Enter the dimensions that the image should be in your generated report. We recommend matching the aspect ratio to the image you plan on uploading.
Copy placeholder image. Then, paste it into your report template. Position this placeholder to wherever the actual image should be.
Copy image tag. Then, return to your placeholder image in your report template, right-click on it, and click Edit alt text. Paste the image tag in the alt text field.
Troubleshooting: A form field isn’t populating in my generated report
If a form field is generating blank, there are two possible reasons:
The field in that form is not filled out. To fix this, open that form in Fieldguide and add data to the field.
The mail merge tag is incorrect or outdated. To fix this, update the mail merge tag in your report template.
