Set a file name character limit for document exports

Truncate file names of exported files

When you export documents from Fieldguide, the downloaded files will keep the same names as they had in Fieldguide by default. Admins can set a character limit in the firm-wide document export settings to prevent downloaded file names from exceeding a specific length. If a file's name in Fieldguide exceeds this limit, Fieldguide will truncate the name of the file when downloaded.

The file name character limit will apply only to downloaded files. This setting doesn't limit the length or change the name of documents inside Fieldguide.

To view or edit the file name character limit:

  1. Go to Settings > Overview.

  2. Open the Edit menu next to your firm's name.

  3. View Name Character Limit under Document Export Settings. To set a limit, enter the maximum number of characters Fieldguide should allow file downloads to have (must be between 50 and 500).
